Situated at the foot of the Euganei hills, to the south-west of Padua, Abano Terme is now the best mud therapy centre in Europe, thanks to its specialisation and the high standard of its facilities and organisation. The therapeutic qualities of the radioactive waters (87°C) that come from the Montirone springs and its mud cures have been famous since Roman times. Abano’s great popularity is recent, however – it is only in the last few decades that its many hotels have sprung up to take advantage of the underground thermal waters.
Montegrotto Abano and Battaglia make up the spa complex of the Euganean Hills; the speciality in Montegrotto is mud treatment.
