Naples is a point of departure for visiting the Campania region. This metropolis even today conserves the signs of its millenarian history. It is enough to cite the archaeological zones of Pompeii, at the foot of the volcano Vesuvius, and further south, Paestum. To the north the green plains gently descend towards Santa Maria Capua Vetere, noted for its Roman ruins. To the east is the solitary and mountainous province of Benevento. But the sea is the most special element of the landscape. Besides the islands of the Gulf of Naples (Capri, Ischia and Procida), the Amalfi and Cilento coastlines are also famous.
