CHIANCIANO TERME

Situated on the green hills of Valdichiana, Chianciano Terme is a popular health resort on a account of its curative spring water. Chianciano was known during the Etruscan and Roman periods but it was only at the beginning of the last century that the properties of the water were commercialised and the first spas were set up. Beside the spa area is the old, typical medieval town centre. Within its ancient walls there are some lovely churches, a thirteenth century castle and an interesting archaelogical museum. The Etruscans knew about the waters, the Romans took advantage of them and built summer houses with spas, even Horace, the Roman poet, came here to take the waters. The three springs – Santa, Fucoli and Sillene – are equipped with thermal facilities, offering not only thermal cures but also beauty treatments. Visitors are guaranteed specialised and personal assistance.
