Asiago is the principal town of the “Seven Communes” on the historic Asiago plateau, famous for the Italian counter offensive during the First World War, and is situated between the Astico and the Brenta in the province of Vicenza. Nowadays it is a well known summer and winter holiday resort. The skiing complex is divided into five centres at Larici, Maddarello, Bellocchio, Ekar and Kaberlaga and has a good number of … going up to 2019 m. From this point there are runs of varying difficulty, including the “Larici”, the “Santi”, the “Direttissima Ekar” and the “Melagon”. There are interesting cross-country trails over a total distance of 36 km and mountain routes for Alpine skiers, the most popular being Mount Portule (2308 m), Cima del Motti (2098 m) and Mount Ortigara (2105 m). You can visit the impressive war memorial chapel and Padua University’s astrophysics observatory which has the biggest telescope in Italy. Getting there By train: Vicenza Station 55 km. By road: A 31, exit at the Piovene-Rocchette toll booths. Follow the signs for Asiago and go on to the SS 349 (the del Costo road).
