The little town of San Pellegrino Terme has the best known spa station in the Bergamo area and is set in the enchanting scenery of the Brembana Valley. The thermal spring was already known in the 15th century and its curative properties were recognised about three centuries later. It was in 1900 that this place on the banks of the River Brembo created its beautiful art nouveau thermal stations and became a favourite tourist destination for the élite, with members of the European nobility coming for treatments and rest. There are three springs – the Palazzolo, the Salaroli and the Fonte Vecchia – of earthy, alkaline hypothermal water (26°C) containing sulphate and bicarbonate. It is particularly indicated for diseases of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, urinary tract and gynaecological system conditions and disorders of the metabolism. With its delightful natural setting, the little town of San Pellegrino Terme also offers visitors who come for cures and wellbeing holidays the opportunity to make interesting trips and discover the wonders of the fertile Brembana Valley.
