This well known thermal resort is situated in the lower Camonica Valley amongst fields and chestnut and pine woods. It is part of the Darfo Boario Terme district. The little town was clearly planned with tourism and the hotel trade in mind since all the main buildings are set in the Parco Termale.
The spa is fed by four springs of mineral waters with varying concentrations of salt, particularly indicated for disorders of the liver and digestive system. The different springs are called the Antica Fonte, Fonte Fausta, Fonte Igea and Fonte Sila. Directly opposite the entrance to the hydro is the road leading to the splendid Alpine basin of Schilpario which lies across the Sclave Valley. At first you go through steep cliffs but then the road opens out to reveal some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lombardy mountains. The Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri is an important attraction, with signs that men lived here in the very earliest times, and is looked after by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
