This popular tourist place and health resort on the east side of Lake Maggiore in the province of Varese is situated in a wide bay at the mouth of the River Valtravaglia and the River Tresa valley. In the town you can visit the fifteenth century Church of the Madonna del Carmine, with its sixteenth century frescoes.

The Civic Museum in Via Dante has paintings from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries, and fossil and archaeological collections. The Oratory of San Pietro, with its Romanesque bell tower, was rebuilt between the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth centuries, and is situated near the cemetery.
