Description
Almost completely rebuilt after the destruction of the second world war, Roccaraso has assumed a tourist and residential functionality. Today it can be considered the most important center of summer and winter vacationing in south-central Italy. It is located on a site that dominates the Rasine Valley, on the southeast border of the Altipiani Maggiori region, included between the Maiella and the Marsicani Mountains. The ski area is divided into three parts: the first is located in the inhabited area, the second in the Aremogna zone, and the last on Pizzo Alto.

This last ski area connects with those of Rivisondoli and of Pescocostanzo, to form a vast area of the Altopiani Maggiori of Abruzzo. Among the downhill slopes, covering 60 km overall, most noteworthy are the "Rossa,” "Nera,” "Canguro" and "Lago d'Avoli.” Lovers of cross-country skiing have at their disposal 3 circuits for a total of 15 km, while alpine skiers can cover many itineraries in the plain of Aremogna and ascend the slopes of Mount Greco, to a height of 2283 meters.
The after-ski activity offers diversions day and night: ice and roller skating rinks, covered swimming pool with water slide, tennis, soccer field, archery, skeet shooting, equitation, cinema, pizzerias, restaurants and discotheques. Among the gastronomic specialties we recommend maccheroni alla chittara, tagliatelle with ricotta, squewered abbacchio (meat), lentils with chestnuts and scamorze (a kind of cheese).
