In the heart of the upper Nervia valley, just a few kilometres from towns on the Ponente Riviera, lies Pigna, an enchanting medieval town and the only spa centre in Liguria. Perched on a hill in green countryside, this little old town still has a charming medieval feel with its network of narrow streets, old houses and the numerous churches and chapels that adorn the town centre. Down in the valley in “Lago Pigo” are the thermal springs, famous since the 13th century, that bubble to the surface at 28-32°C. The waters contain sulphur and chloride and are particularly indicated for treatment of dermatological conditions. They are also used for ear and respiratory disorders, gynaecological conditions and rheumatic complaints. It is worth mentioning that within the spa complex – completely refurbished in 1999 – there is an inhalation centre for children.

Ideal starting point for trips inland and to the beaches on the Ponente Riviera and the nearby Côte d’Azur, Pigna also has its own delightful popular traditions and a poetry festival.
