Situated on the Apennines near Bologna, Porretta Terme is a delightful little town on the border between Emilia and Tuscany, set in green countryside and especially suitable for relaxing breaks. The town is best known for its spa springs.
The spa waters in Porretta have been enjoyed since the time of the Romans and legend has it that they were discovered thanks to a tired old ox which was seen to drink from the spring and immediately became energetic again.
The spa establishments were restored in the 18th century and since then, the number of visitors has increased steadily since the opening of a main road and railway line to the town.
Of the four thermal springs, four contain chloride, bromide and iodine while the other four are sulphurous. Disorders treated are those affecting the respiratory system, circulation, gynaecological conditions and rhinal deafness.

Porretta Terme is the ideal starting place for trips into the surrounding countryside and also has a pretty historic centre for visitors to visit.
